Very excited to say that The Adroit Journal has accepted my first piece of creative nonfiction, "Rural Appalachian Tour of Homes," for publication later this year. Adroit is a snazzy dang journal full of really great writing, and I count myself lucky to be a part of it. Thanks to Peter and all the readers at Adroit for taking the, uh, essay? I think it's an essay. Anyway, thank you!

Happy to say that my apocalyptic short story "Three Halves of the Body" will be in the Summer 2016 issue of Eleven Eleven, the literary journal from the MFA program at the California College of the Arts. Many thanks to Will and all the gang at EE for taking such an odd (but good! very good!) story.
I was on a plane coming home from a conference in Vancouver earlier this year and all around me people were watching the same movie on their in-seat screens, Expendables 3. At least I think it was Expendables 3, but anyway I sat surrounded by the same image of dozens, if not hundreds, of men getting mowed down in an odd silence. (I didn't pony up for the headphones, so all was quiet.) Maybe it was the fact I wasn't listening to the movie, just watching it on multiple screens, but I got the idea for a list of obituaries for these non-characters, these background casualties. So, after much writing, re-conceptualizing, tinkering, and workshopping, I was able to convince the fine men and women at Washington Square Review to publish "Excerpts from the 'Infinite Casualty Lists.'" Look for it next year, and many thanks to the crew at WSR for taking a chance on such a work.
